The band Skillet was formed when John Cooper and Ken Steorts threw what they knew together and formed the band Skillet in 1996 in Memphis, Tennessee. The two had known each other for years and hung out together on a regular basis. (These guys are about as close as a leaf on a tree). They were both from completely different music backgrounds and had also both been in bands prior to forming their own. The two of them later decided to do their own thing; they threw what they knew together and that’s how the name Skillet came about, “like throwing everything in a skillet and bam! There you have it, name found!” They then introduced Trey McClurkin to beat it down on the drums. The 3 of them were kickin’ ass and their material was off the hook! What they came up with was amazing and it quickly caught the attention of major Christian label, ForeFront Records. Then in late 1996, they released their very first album which was called…wait for it…. ”Skillet!”. The album was HOT, their songs were intense, they wrote a little more, did a little more touring, then in 1997 they recorded their second album, “Hey You, I Love Your Soul” that bad boy was released in April 1998. Then in 2003 Collide was released by Ardent Records and the band caught the attention of Lee Trink (the gm of…you guessed it….Lava Records, a division of Atlantic). Then on May 23, 2004 “Colide” was re-released under Lava Records with the added track, “Open Wounds.” They kept writing and singing and working’ things out and that lead them right back to the studio; where they recorded their next album known as, “Comatose” which was released on October 3, 2006. People almost shit their pants after hearing this bad ass album and the album spawned 3 rockin’ singles including, “Rebirthing”, “Whispers in the Dark” and “The Last Night”. (Although the titles may sound almost godly in a way, these guys are more rock now then ever) with that being said, Skillet has already released seven studio albums, received Grammy nominations for both Colide and Comatose and if that’s not enough; these bad boys have moved from Christian rock to industrial/alt/hard rock baby! Plus, they will also be releasing a Live DVD later on this year with footage filmed from May 9th of the 2008’s Comatose Tour, which kicked ass; so be on the look out for that! They’ve been busier then ever touring with everyone from Decyfer Down to Breaking Benjamin to 3 days Grace and Seether and that’s not even mentioning their most recent tour; in which they did roaming over 30 cities with another new awesome band known as, Thousand Foot krutch! Band Members include, John Cooper singing away on vocals and slammin’ it on bass, Korey Cooper on guitar, keyboard and back up vocalist (yes they’re related), Ben Kasica on guitar and Jen Ledger beating down on drums. Skillet also plans on hoppin’ back into the studio in the fall to start work on their new album which will be released in the Spring of 2009, so hang up your coat, have a beer and wait for it!
