Seether's a kick ass rock band straight out of South Africa! Crazy but true, the group's 2002 debut, Disclaimer; came in and landed them a slot with the one and only Ozzy Osbourne on Ozzfest tour! That later led to a year-long gig opening for Evanescence that stalled a return to the studio and saw frontman Shaun Morgan hooking up with chanteuse Amy Lee. Seether reworked "Broken" into a duet with Lee and Morgan, and also recorded "Sold Me" for the soundtrack to The Punisher. While that's what broke them to the mainstream, it also alienated many old fans who didn't like the new version of the song and didn't like Morgan tramping around with Lee. After releasing Karma and Effect and the acoustic One Cold Night, guitarist Pat Callahan left the group. Rather than replacing him, the band went into the studio as a trio.
There's nothing quite like rock n' roll romance to rough up a band. Seether gained mainstream success and popularity via the dalliances between Shaun Morgan and Amy Lee, but with any luck the post-break-up heartache will just fuel Morgan, who did a stint in rehab in '06. Word on the 'Net is that Evanescence's "Call Me When You're Sober" is all about him. You've got to like a band that is true to its fans; The CD One Cold Night was recorded when Morgan, sick as a dog, decided to do an acoustic show instead of canceling a performance. And when complaints rolled in about the new version of "Broken," he took to the chat rooms and forums to tell his side of the story, guaranteeing that the group would never be pushed around by a record label again. Of course, the original title of Karma and Effect was Catering to Cowards, so maybe never say never again. They just came out with a new kick ass album with their hit song, Fake it on there....That's what i'm talking about!
