Scars on Broadway is a killer American-Armenian rock band that kicks some serious ass! These guys are bad ass! The band’s awesome and the current band line up features System of a Down members, Daron Malakian taking over on lead vocals and guitar and John Dolmavan kickin’ ass on the drums. For live performances the band is joined by Franky Perez, Danny Shamoun and Dominic Cifarelli. Prior members include, Casey Chaos, Greg Kelso and Zach Hill. The band formed in 2003 by Daron Malakian killin’ it on lead guitar, Casey Chaos singing away on vocals, Zach Hill rocking out on the drums and Greg Kelso kickin’ ass on rhythm guitar.
In December 2005, Malakian stated in an interview that he "could release ten solo records tomorrow." and that he has"tons of material laying around. After these albums, - (Mezmerize and Hypnotize) - I'm gonna go off to learn how to brain and do something on my own, just like Serj. And no, System of a Down is not breaking up. We're just gonna do like KISS and put out our own solo records."
Following System's hiatus, Daron Malakian announced his latest project - Scars on Broadway - a band which at the time included System of a Down bassist, Shavo Odadjian, himself and System of a Down drummer, John Dolmayan was in full effect and they were serious about this new band.
Malakian has written and composed all the songs for Scars on Broadway and he’s shifted his songwriting direction away from hardcore metal and more into mesmerizing song-based work. "I don't feel we're the mosh-pit band," says Malakian. "That's just where I'm comfortable as a writer right now."
The band and had a wide rage on influences everyone from David Bowie to Neil Young.
After months of practice and song writing, Scars on Broadway jumped in the studio and began recording their first debut album, “Scars on Broadway” on September 27, 2007. Then on December 6th, 2007, the drum tracks for the album had been finished and the band moved into the next stage of recording. On July 25th, the band released a teaser for the album featuring the song "Babylon".
They then went on to release, “They Say" as their first airplay single, which was a success with fans and radio personalities alike. It was accompanied by a video that was shot and released in late June 2008.
The band performed their first live show on April 11, 2008 at the Whisky A Go Go in Los Angeles, CA. They killed it and had everyone in the audience cheering and screaming like you would not even believe! The place was packed and they had fans on their feet and loving every minute of it.
These guys are turning heads left and right! Their music is amazing and catching everyone’s attention, everyone from the music industry to fans alike. They all have prior music experience and the new band is gaining an enormous amount of respect amongst the music industry. They’re not one breath short of amazing and on July 25th, it was announced that their killer song, "They Say" would be a downloadable track for the video game Rock Band on July 29 for Xbox 360 and July 31 for PS3. Everyone knows how killer Rock Band is and it’s tough to get a track on the game, so when they found out their song was going to be a downloadable song for the video game Rock Band they were stoked!
Scars on Broadway released their debut album, “Scars on Broadway” July 28 2008 and the album’s bad ass, all their songs are pretty killer!
Their music is amazing and Daron Malakian’s voice is simply mesmerizing on vocals; with killer tunes like the mesmerizing, “World Long Gone” and the kick ass tune, “They Say”, these guys are bound to make an impression!
