Puddle of Mudd first came together in 2001 when Wes Scantlin put together a band and decided to name it, Puddle of Mudd. The name was inspired by the Missouri River flood, which saturated the dirt and came crashing into the bands practice space; leaving the floor a huge “Puddle of Mudd”. The band sat down, practiced non-stop and came up with some killer tunes! The song's were so good, that they caught the attention of rock superstar Fred Durst who watched and waited, keeping tabs on the band like a stalker. Puddle of Mudd was hot, eye-catching, putting on amazing shows and mesmorizing audiences world wide, then all this sudden they were done and the band parted ways. Wes Scantlin on the other hand wasn't done rockin' and still wanted to kick some ass in the studio as well as on stages world wide.
After hearing about the band break up, Fred Durst went to work to get his scruffy little paws on a demo tape pronto! After a copy of Wes Scantin’s demo was delivered, Fred Durst immediately got in touch with Scantlin. Durst had decided to bring Wes to California and attempt to put a new band together. The new line-up included, Wes Scantlin singing away on lead vocals and kicking ass on guitar, Doug Ardito killin’ it on bass and backing vocals, Christian Stone rockin’ out on lead guitar and Ryan Yerdon breakin’ it down on the drums. They decided to stick with the name Puddle of Mudd. The four teamed-up and started playing some of the bands older songs as well as some of the new ones.
Durst then created his own record label, signing these bad boys right off the bat to his brand spankin’ new label, Flawless Records in 2001. They were the first to sign with the new label. Puddle of Mudd then released their first major label debut album 'Come Clean' on August 28, 2001. The album was a huge success, people went crazy over it!!
Come Clean has sold well over 5 million copies and spawned no less then 4 major radio hits; including Drift&Die, She Hates Me, Out of my Head and Blurry, the most played song of 2002! Their first hit, "Control" had radio request lines ringing off the hook, it was so successful that it grabbed the attention of rock music audiences worldwide within one month after being released! "Blurry" the albums second single, turned out to be Puddle of Mudd's most successful single, reaching #3 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #5 in the United Kingdom! Drift&Die was also released as a single and spent 6weeks at #1 on the Mainstream Rock Chart; 6 flippin’ weeks people, imagine that! The fourth single, "She Hates Me", was released in late 2002 and became a massive hit reaching #1 on the Mainstream Rock chart, as well as climbing to #13 on the Billboard Hot 100!
A month after releasing Come
Clean they were ready to get the show on the road! They went on a
European tour with rock sensation Godsmack. Then they came back to the U.S and kicked it off by taking part in
the Family Values 2001 tour; alongside Stone Temple Pilots, Linkin Park
and Staind. In 2003 Puddle of Mudd released “Life on Display”. Mean-while copies of their album, Come Clean were
selling left and right and on January 31, 2003 their album Come Clean
was certified Triple Platinum in the U.S. by the Recording Industry
Association of America (RIAA).
To date the band has sold over 7
million albums! If that isn’t crazy I don’t know what is! They’ve had
several mainstream rock singles in the U.S. as well as in the U.K.
These guys are here to stay, so definitely be expecting another kick
ass album sometime this year and if they tour….get your butt out and
see them, because these guys rock out so hard, you have to see it to
believe it! With rhythms going from hard to chill in 2.2 seconds, it’s hard not to like the band. Have you heard their shiznit?! Obviously you have at some point or another, who hasn’t! With Edgy lyrics, Catchy tunes, and killer songs, these guys are bound to stay stuck in your head for days!
