MÖTLEY CRÜE bassist spoke toBillboardabout the progress of the songwriting sessions for the new album from SIXX: A.M., his band withJames Michael and D.J. Ashba.
"We've got a lot of songs," Sixx said, "and we're in the final home stretch of buttoning all those songs up. It's definitely going to be this year — or in a perfect world, it will be this year. I don't want to jinx it."
The new album will be another concept piece, but Sixx isn't revealing the storyline yet. "As a lyricist, I'm really trying to raise my level of quality,"Sixx said. "Being able to say something lyrically, to say something that will do more than just be words, is really hard. It's easy to do when you're writing a chapter of a book or writing poetry, but it's really hard to do when you're confined to a melody line."
Considering the fact that SIXX: A.M.'s debut, "The Heroin Diaries", has shifted more than 300,000 copies in the U.S. to date, there is quite a bit of pressure on SIXX: A.M. to deliver a worthy follow-up effort, but Sixxsays he is doing his best to put it aside.
"There are expectations, but you have to ignore them," he said. "SIXX: A.M. is a passion project. I think when you do things like that and put your heart into them and do your best and don't necessarily put them on a marketing grid, that's when things turn out the best."
After 2 years of dating, MOTLEY CRUE bassist Nikki Sixx and LA INK hottie Kat-Von-D
called it quits.
The two ended their 2 year romance yesterday and are choosing to keep the breakup personal. Nikki Sixx "Officially" released this statement on the NIKKI SIXX and KAT-VON-D split:
“I want to wish Katherine nothing but the best
in her life. She has loved and inspired the hell outta me and I know I have
done the same for her in these almost two years we ruled the earth together. We
are taking a break from our relationship for reasons that we will choose to
keep personal. You won’t find me saying a bad word about her and I don’t
believe vice versa… We have too much wonderful history together to ever deface
The new Monster Energy Stage doubles the entertainment value at Crüe Fest 2 with five extra bands showcasing the next generation of rock, including one local band in each tour market! The performances on the Monster Energy Stage will be staggered between main stage acts, creating a non-stop music event and adding to the overall festival atmosphere. With no change in ticket prices, rock fans will be given the opportunity to see ten great rock bands for the price of one! Talk about getting a bang for your buck!
A local band will be chosen by the presenting radio station in each market contributing to the legacy of rock bands on the tour. The chosen band will open the Monster Energy Stage for a dedicated and Crüe Fest 2-sized crowd. "It's always been in our hearts to turn our fans onto new rock music. A second stage seems to be just what the doctor ordered for Crüe Fest 2 and gives loyal CRÜE and rock fans more for their hard earned money. See ya there," said MÖTLEY CRÜE's Nikki Sixx, Mick Mars, Vince Neil and Tommy Lee.
Monster Energy has dedicated its brand to live music over the years as part of major national and international festivals, specialty concert tours and substantial one-offs, in both core sponsor and associate sponsor categories utilizing on-site activation through multiple avenues. The partnership with Crüe Fest 2 marks the first time Monster Energy will have a mobile stage dedicated entirely to their brand. "MÖTLEY CRÜE is such an iconic band with the most loyal fans in the world. In a time where it seems everything is being cut back, MÖTLEY CRÜE is giving more to its fans and at the same time giving up and coming bands exposure. Monster Energy is proud to be a part of the havoc that will be wreaked across the nation this summer," says Brent Hamilton of Monster Energy.
The main stage at the Live Nation produced Crüe Fest 2 stars MÖTLEY CRÜE and features GODSMACK, THEORY OF A DEADMAN, DROWING POOL, and introduces new hit icon, CHARM CITY DEVILS! The sequel to last summer's most successful touring festival begins its North American trek in Camden, New Jersey on July 19, 2009 and comes to an end on September 5, 2009 in Darien Lake, NY.
MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee has opened a recording studio called: The Atrium. Located on the entire lower floor of Tommy's Calabasas, California residence. The studio was created specifically to provide an environment that inspires creativity and offer a vibey alternative to traditional, commercial recording studios.
The Atrium Studio is equipped to host all stages of a full-blown music production — writing through mixing. Although the facility is mainly for private use, Tommy often opens the doors to fellow friends and musicians to use for their own projects.
KTLA.com reports that a helicopter carrying MÖTLEY CRÜE drummer Tommy Lee was forced to land at Van Nuys Airport Sunday (February 1) after it flew too close to an LAPD (Los Angeles Police Department) chopper over Glendale. The incident happened around 10:45 a.m., police said.
The pilot apparently told police after landing that he had been drinking. Yes he was flying the damn helicopter drunk~! OMG! He was taken to the LAPD's Van Nuys Station and later released. He apparently was not booked for a crime pending the outcome of an intoxication test.
"The pilot was flying rather erratically, and he did get too close to one of our helicopters" said LAPD Officer Karen Smith. "The tower over the area was concerned about his flying too." Drunk pilot flying a helicopter like a fucking wako...probably not the best idea! I wouldn't recommend hopping in for a ride, luckly everyone walked away with out a scratch.
Lee, who had been in the chopper, was let go. "Tommy Lee was a passenger aboard the helicopter, but he had nothing to do with the situation; so he was just released," Smith said.
