IRON MAIDEN Singer Forced To Take A Break Between Rocking & Flying!

Flight bosses banned qualified pilot and IRON MAIDEN frontman Bruce Dickinson from flying his band around on tour last year, fearing performing would leave him too tired. The band took a personalized Boeing 757 — dubbed Ed Force 1 — on their Somewhere Back in Time tour!

Dickinson, who flies for a commercial airline in his spare time, hoped to be behind the controls the whole way, as IRON MAIDEN took in 13 13 countries in five continents in just 45 days. Officials at the British Civil Aviation Authority forced him to take a 12-hour break between rocking and flying, meaning the band and their entourage had to rely on a co-pilot for many of the flights. Although Dickinson was disappointed, many of his crew were relieved. Bandmate Nicko McBrain says: "Some of the road crew were like, "What? After running around onstage, he is going to fly us back?"

For "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", the band was accompanied everywhere by award-winning documentary makers Banger Productions from Toronto in Canada, who have received international critical acclaim for their previous movies "Metal: A Headbanger's Journey" and "Global Metal". Producer/presenter Sam Dunn and his team bring an intimate, behind-the-scenes view of this remarkable journey, with a close look at the logistics involved and following Team Maiden in the cockpit, on the plane and on and offstage, getting to the heart of this global adventure of a band that has very rarely even let cameras backstage before.

Shot in high definition and with superb 5.1 surround sound, mixed by the band's producer Kevin "Caveman" Shirley, "Flight 666" brings to the screen all the drama, excitement and hysteria that followed the band around the world every time Ed Force One (the band's plane) touched down in a new country. The film documents the intensity of the punishing show schedules, the struggle with the time zones, the pressures of ensuring that every performance matched the energy of the many thousands of ecstatic and expectant fans from many cultural backgrounds, unusual angles from the spectacular shows... and, of course, the fun had on the way!
 
Richard Crouse, film critic and host of television's award-winning "Reel to Real", recently conducted an interview with directors Scot McFadyen and Sam Dunn of Banger Films Inc., creators of "Iron Maiden: Flight 666", the feature-length documentary film which follows the IRON MAIDEN band members on the first leg of their "Somewhere Back In Time World Tour" in February and March of 2008. IRON MAIDEN To Play First Florida Concert In 13 Years!

IRON MAIDEN have confirmed that the last and final show of their massive "Somewhere Back in Time World Tour 2008 - 2009" will be making its last stop in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on April 2, 2009 at the Bank Atlantic Center!

The bands hasn't performed in the state of Florida since 1996 and this will definitely be the very last gig of one of the most ambitious rock tours ever undertaken! Since the tour will be ending in Florida, the band promises to kick ass, party hard and make this night a night to remember for both the band and audience!
 
"We'll be arriving right in the middle of spring break, so this really promises to be a huge party for everyone! And I'm sure there will be more than a few sore heads in Fort Lauderdale the following day! The whole tour has been an amazing experience and this final leg back on Ed Force One promises to be crazier than ever!" Says drummer and local Florida resident, Nicko McBrain.

After the tour they plan to take a little time off, get their energy back up and then hit the studio to work on a brand spankin' new studio album!

Adrian Smith, Steve Harris, Bruce Dickinson, Dave Murray, Janick Gers, and Nicko McBrain are heavy metal sensation Iron Maiden. Formed on Christmas Day in 1975, the band has gone through twelve different lineups over its long history. Originating from East London, the band went through a period of significant upheaval before recording its first album in 1980, Iron Maiden. Their first release topped British charts at fourth place, riding on the crest of the new wave of British heavy metal. That year saw their Unmasked tour, and they also opened up for Kiss and Judas Priest. Killers was released in 1981, though the band considered it a supplement to their debut album. Their 1982 album Number of the Beast became number one in Britain, ranking in the top ten everywhere else. Their American reputation was either marred or enhanced, depending upon how you view it by excessive drinking and accusations of Satanism. Piece of Mind was released in 1983, which was heavier than the previous albums. It was followed by Live After Death in 1985 and Somewhere in Time in 1986, which was a musically experimental collection based around time travel. Their only number one hit single "Bring your Daughter to the Slayer" was released in 1990. The released Fear of the Dark in 1992. Virtual Xl in 1998 was their first album that failed to sell a million copied worldwide. The new century brought A Brave New World in 2000 and the Rock in Rio festival. 2005 saw the commemoration of the band's 30 year anniversary and the re-release of its first album, Iron Maiden. Iron Maiden played Ozzfest in 2005 and released Death on the Road the same year. They continue to tour and play to this day. They were also ranked fourth out of MTV's Top Ten Greatest Heavy Metal Bands of All Time.
Iron Maiden is both a pillar and icon of modern rock as we know it today. Even people who've lived under a rock for the last 30 years still feel their effect. Iron Maiden's Powerslave was their contribution to rock on the level of Michael Jackson's "Thriller" to pop. Iron Maiden is the complete epitome of speed, rhythm, and execution. All their work is excitement beyond the edge of your seat and through your neighbor's wall. Many of us and were born and raised on Iron Maiden, something we and many of our parents are and should be proud of.
