Hollywood Undead is a brand new band whose music has been described as a mixture of rock, metal, hip hop and rap. They've been compared to a wide range of music, everyone from N’Sync rock wannabes with masks, to Eminem with a rock feel, to straight up Limp Bizcut! These guys have been the talk of the town, coming out with a different sound and delivering real life experiences to their fans through their tunes. The band consists of Lyrical Genius - Charlie Scene, Sweet Talker - J-Dog, Loud Mouth - Da Kurlzz, Singer aka the producer- Deuce, African Baritone - Funny Man and The Server- Johnny 3 Tears.
They’ve all been friends their entire lives and have a really strong connection with each other. They’re not only high energy singers, song writers and musicians but they’re also very entertaining; cracking jokes in the middle of song sets and any chance they get, there’s never a dull moment with these guys! Hollywood Undead is a true crowd pleaser and they have a rapidly growing fan base that continues to grow by the day. They take music to a whole new level by performing Slipknot style with masks; they're not hardcore like Slipknot, but they have their own style; which makes them seem a little crazy and mysterious.
They made their live debut in August 2008 at Virgin Mobile, after going head to head in a line up among four other bands. Hollywood Undead came out on top winning with over 2,500 votes in their favor! The place was packed and they had People going crazy! Everyone was on their feet screaming out their name and marking Hollywood Undead on their ballet. Their popular song Undead is featured on the Madden 2009 Soundtrack, which is pretty impressive in itself for a band as new as they are. It was released as an official single on August 19, 2008, making it the second popular single from their killer album Swan Song.
My favorite song on the album happens to be No.5, which kicks some serious ass. The video was featured as our JuicyBands video of the week last week, it has a fun clubbing rock feel that makes you want to get up and dance! Though the group first signed a record contract in 2005, they spent nearly three years working on and perfecting their debut album before it was released. Hollywood Undead deceided to stick to what they knew and refused to switch up their entire album or style to impress anyone (anyone meaning their first label which never even released their album). They knew they had something and just went with it, they stuck to what they were good at and didn't compromise to change their ways or their lyrics. They attracted an enourmous amount of attention and continued selling out shows until they attracted record label, A&M/Octone Records who agreed to release their album "Swan Song". They signed with A&M/Ocatone Records and soon after, took the stage with rock legend Matalica and impressed a large number of people; gaining them more fans then ever. Hollywood Undead went on to release their debut album "Swan Song" on September 2, 2008.
”We put a lot of work into Swan Song. It was three years in the making. We're all proud of it. We think it's something new, and we're expecting big things from it” said the band. They went on to say, “I think every band that tried to do songs regarding Hollywood glamorized it to an extent. We do the opposite, we mix rock with rap and try and talk about real life in the rap stuff.” With that being said, all we can say is; there’s a certain charm to LA, because it can either make you or break you and Hollywood Undead is not one to be broken.
With 2 EP’s under their belt, 3 singles and their killer new album that’s kicking ass left and right; there’s no doubt you’ll be hearing more of this catchy new band!
So you may be asking yourself, exactly what kind of music is this? Well, since they can fit into so many categories it's really hard to say. They cover a wide range of music, because they have dark songs like "Black Dahlia", but they also have catchy, club banger-style songs like "Undead" and their super catchy hit, “No.5”, which is loved by fans and club goers alike.
So is it rock, is it rap, is it club…we’re not really sure, all we know is that they're the next big thing and we’re lovin’ it!
