FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH confirmed the departure of guitarist Darrell Roberts. The band issued a statement saying, "Every band has its growing pains, and after 18 months in the trenches, relentless touring and living together, we all came to a conclusion that a change had to be made." The statement said that the decision for Roberts to leave was "mutual," adding, "It was a swift and smooth transition and we all remain good friends. All cliches aside we really wish him the best on his musical endeavors."
Roberts's replacement is Jason Hook, most recently seen playing with ALICE COOPER. Lead guitarist Zoltan Bathory said about Jason Hook, "He's an unbelievable player, and a good friend of all of us, so we hope our fans will welcome him in the DEATH PUNCH crew."
Hook joins FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH at a busy time in the band's career, as they continue touring in support of their 2007 hit album, 'The Way Of The Fist'. "There are so many tours already set up, I think I would say probably by next summer we could drop another record," he said. "We'll hit the road, probably take out a mobile Pro Tools rig with us so we can record on the bus, and then when we come back to the U.S., hopefully like by June, July maybe we can make another record." said the band.
"The Way Of The Fist" has sold more than a quarter of a million copies and produced three hit singles, including: The Bleeding, Never Enough and Stranger Than Fiction.
Bassist Matt Snell of the Los Angeles-based band FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH was interviewed last summer by Metal Matt of "Metallicity Radio Hour" at the last stop of the 2008 Rockstar Energy Drink Mayhem Festival in Buffalo, New York. Watch the chat below:
According to The Pulse of Radio, FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH was cited as one of the breakout rock bands of 2008, with their debut album, "The Way of the Fist", selling more than a quarter of a million copies and producing three singles, including the new "Stranger Than Fiction". With the new track climbing the charts and more touring on the horizon, singer Ivan Moody told The Pulse of Radio that the stakes are getting higher for the band in 2009. "It's getting intimidating, yeah," he said. "It seems like the more people falling into us, the more weight is put on our shoulders, the higher the expectations, but you know, I've never been one to run away from that kind of thing. For me, if it takes a little bit more pressure to get us out there to more people, and to make the shows better, I'm all about it. Bring as much of the pressure as you can possibly manage."
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH's previous single, "Never Enough", was taken from an expanded edition of "The Way of the Fist" released late last year.
The group will head to the U.K. and Europe for a tour next month, possibly to be followed by more U.S. dates. The band also hopes to get into the studio and begin writing a new record this spring.
"The Way of the Fist" has sold 274,000 copies in the United States, according to Nielsen SoundScan. The Canadian version of the CD, which was released on November 4, includes a live version of "The Devil's Own" and an acoustic version of "The Bleeding".
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will take part in the fourth edition of the Music As A Weapon tour, which will kick off in March. Also joining the headliners DISTURBED will be KILLSWITCH ENGAGE.
FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will be coming to the UK for the first time as part of Metal Hammer's "Defenders of the Faith II" package in February 2009. This tour boasts an incredible lineup of metal heavyweights, with DIMMU BORGIR, LAMB OF GOD and UNEARTH completing the bill. FIVE FINGER DEATH PUNCH will also be playing headlining dates in London and Oxford, as well as supporting LAMB OF GOD on two dates in Ireland.
As previously reported, Finland's Spinefarm Records has set a January 19, 2009 European release date for "The Way of the Fist". The UK version comes with a bonus live track plus a cover of FAITH NO MORE's "From Out of Nowhere".

Five Finger Death Punch is a heavy metal rock band which was formed in 2005 by guitarist Zoltan Bathory. He immediately recruited vocalist Ivan Moody, guitarist Darrell Roberts, drummer Jeremy Spencer, and former Anubis Rising/Deadsett bassist Matt Snell. In 2006 they recorded their debut album, The Way of the Fist with Stevo “Shotgun” Bruno (Motley Crue) and Mike Sakisyan (Spineshank). The record was mixed and mastered by former Machine Head guitarist, Logan Mader. In early June it was announced that the band inked a deal with Firm Music/EMI, a branch of “The Firm” (a highly successful management company who also had deals with other major bands including, Korn, Stained and Limp Bizcut.) They came out with their kick ass album, “The Way of the Fist” on July 31, 2007. The record was a success right off the bat, braking into the Billboard 200 on its first week of release and immediately rose to #3 on the Billboards New Artist Chart. Their hit song, “The Bleeding” was their first big hit, which immediately landed in the top 40 on the rock charts and rose to #1 on the charts with in days. These guys know how to put on a show, they can definitely rock the fuck out! They headlined the Guitar Hero II second stage at the 2007 Family Values Tour along with Korn, Hell yeah and Droid. The band has already toured with Korn, Hell yeah, Flyleaf, Trivium, and Atreyu in the short time since their album came out. Five Finger Death Punch features an all-star gang of musicians, including vocalist Ivan Moody (formerly of Motograter), Darrel Roberts (W.A.S.P.) and Zoltan Bathory (UPO). These guys are kick ass and they’re scheduled for the Rockstar Mayham Tour this summer with Slipknot and Disturbed. I can’t wait because these guys kick some serious ass and they sound awesome live! This summer audiences will see why Metal Edge calls Five Finger Death Punch “the sound of violent exhilaration, giving contemporary metal a belligerent shove in an exciting direction.”
