Of course no heavy metal fan is without a number of Danzig
albums-they're to their day very big players in the genre. Formed in
1987 by Glenn Danzig after his stint in Samhain, the new band would
start working right away, releasing their debut album in 1988. From
then on it was up and down with Danzig as they would try out different
styles and would therefore seem to trade in their fanbase for a new one
every other album. They would hit a high point in the early 90s with
the release ofDanzig III,
which featured H.R. Giger artwork on the cover and is considered the
seminal Danzig experience. With 8 albums under their belt and counting,
they don't show any signs of slowing down anytime soon, and are rumored
to be at work on #9.
What's not to like about Danzig? Their dark tunes have a goth-like feel
while simultaneously stay true to their genre, which is Heavy Metal,
pure and simple. They can do loud music, soft music, and everything
in-between. Clearly Danzig's sound has evolved over the years, and some
fans would say that's not a good thing, but we say it's proof of an
intelligent band ever on the move, never afraid to explore and take
risks. They may not always pay off, but when they do it's music to our
ears.
