Black Light Burns is a hard rock industrial metal band that formed in 2006 in L.A, CA. The original lineup included, Wes Borland (formerly of Limp Bizkit, Big Dumb Face and Eat the Day), Danny Lohner (Nine Inch Nails, A Perfect Circle), Josh Eustis (Telefon Tel Aviv) and Josh Freese (The Vandals, Nine Inch Nails and A Perfect Circle). Wes (the main man who put Black Light Burns together), left Limp Bizcut back in 2001 but as 2004 rolled around; Wes got the opportunity to tour as the guitarist with the one and only hard rock mainstay, Nine Inch Naills! That’s huge, however he said to himself, “I don’t think I’ll go”. He declined the offer and rejoined Limp Bizcut back in 2004 after an agreement was made. The agreement was, “that their label (Limp bizcuts label Geffen) agreed to support his solo project; which was then Black Light Burns.” Although Black Light Burns started out as a solo side project, it soon escalated into something far more complex then that and was about to blow the fuck up! After carefully writing songs, dedicating time and constantly thinking about the new project, Wes created something absolutely amazing. Soon after he realized that, Wes himself stated, “Black Light Burns as of that point, was his main project, and anything else he did; including Limp Bizkit, was a side project”. After Fred Durst heard him say that, Durst was fuming, yes my friends; that pissed Limp Bizcuts main man Fred Durst off and the dust began to fly! Soon after the cat was out of the bag and all shit hit the fan, Wes called it quits and began to focus on his main project; Black Light Burns. Prior to this, Wes had written some softer material for Black Light Burns, but after this big ordeal; he decided to just say, fuck it and wrote some heavier material to replace the softer stuff he had written earlier. The hardcore heavy material he had wrote, eventually turned into some bad ass songs! Since then the band has developed into a full out hardcore metal rock band known today as, Black Light Burns. The current lineup includes, Wes Borland kickin’ ass on lead vocals, guitars, bass and keyboards, Nick Annis rockin’ out on guitar, Sean Fetterman slammin’ down on bass and Marshall Kilpatric killin’ it on drums and percussion.
These guys have some killer albums, bad ass songs and some kick ass material under their belt! The bands first tour was with pop/rock band, From First to Last; who Wes also played bass for off and on for a while.
Their debut album, Cruel Melody was released on June 5, 2007; the album sold over 6,000 copies in the first week of it’s release. A brand spankin’ new album and DVD was also released this summer, “Cover Your Heart and the Anvil Pants Odyssey”; so definitely keep your eyes peeled for that! Wes says that, he’s already written about 15 new bad ass songs for the follow up to the album, “Cruel Melody”. With Marshall Kilpatric aiding the writing process, the new album will definitely be heavier, not as dark and very guitar driven based…in other words, “IT’S GONNA ROCK!”.
