As I Lay Dying, which takes its name from the novel of the same name by
William Faulkner, was formed in 2001 and is made up of Tim Lambesis singin' it on
vocals, Phil Sgrosso and Nick Hipa rockin' on guitar, Clint Norris on slammin' bass and
Jordan Mancino on kickin' ass on the drums! This San Diego-based quintet released two EPs
with Pluto Records before being signed to Metal Blade in 2003. After
recording two albums with Metal Blade, the label decided to re-release
the band's two early EPs as a single album. The song, "A Long March"...was one of their First Recordings,
which came out in 2006. In between, As I Lay Dying satisfied fans' need
for noise with an intense festival schedule that took them to Ozzfest,
Taste of Chaos and Sounds of the Underground. It's rare for critics and
fans to be on the same page about a band, but in this case, the
consensus is that As I Lay Dying is a band with terrific potential.
If your idea of Christian rock is the guys from Creed warbling away
about - what do they sing about, anyway? - As I Lay Dying just might be
the antidote you need. Fusing Swedish death metal vocals and melodies
with modern hardcore rhythms, As I Lay Dying holds their own among the
best modern metal bands. The combination of heavy rotation on MTV2 and
Fuse plus a rigorous touring schedule has allowed As I Lay Dying to
build a loyal fan base by word of mouth.
