All That Remains is one of the newer entrants in the death metal canon, but by all appearances, they're holding their own just fine alongside more established bands. Hailing from Massachusetts, the band is made up of Phil Labonte (formerly of Shadows Fall) on vocals, Mike Martin and Oli Herbert on guitar, Jeanne Sagan on bass and Jason Costa on drums. After releasing their debut album, Behind Silence and Solitude, in 2002, All That Remains hit the road. They toured the U.S. three times, including a stint on the second stage of OZZ-fest in 2006. The band's song "The Calling" from their 2006 album, The Fall of Ideals, was featured on the soundtrack for horror flick Saw III, and the single "Six" is a bonus track on Guitar Hero II.
Hard to believe this new-millennium death metal outfit only came together as a band in 1998 and released their first album, Behind Silence and Solitude, in 2002. The band's style is a throwback to when death metal had a more melodic definition; although All That Remains avails themselves of the guttural vocal effects and driving percussion that are more characteristic of hardcore, the overall effect is more like classic death metal, with melodic sung passages interspersed with heavier vocals and a sonic assault of twin guitars to round things out.
