All American Rejects, Mike Kennerty Interview

Altsounds.com recently conducted an interview with guitarist, Mike Kennerty from the band, "All American Rejects". Here's a couple of experts from the interview that follow:

Altsounds: Where would you like to tour that you haven't yet?

Mike Kennerty: We haven't gone south at all. Never been to South America or Mexico. We hear these awesome stories about bands playing in Brazil so I think it would be great if we could make it out there some time.

Altsounds: So, 3 years to make a record. What was the hold up?

Mike Kennerty: We took our time. There are 2 ways you can go about it. Once you have success it's like 'oh shit, we better take advantage of this and shit out another record.' Or you can take take your time and get great songs together. We chose the latter. We're really proud of this record!

Altsounds: Have you heard the whole thing yet?

Mike Kennerty: We finished it 3 or 4 weeks ago, and yeah we've heard the whole thing. We were really pushing deadlines and it took forever, but we finally got it done. We all love it!  READ MORE

All American Rejects Pump It Up!

Still-water, Oklahoma's favorite sons (well, favorite rock 'n' roll sons, anyway-X-Men's James Marsden is also from there), The All-American Rejects were formed when bassist/vocalist Tyson Ritter and guitarist/keyboardist Nick Wheeler met in high school, becoming fast friends. They self-released an independent album in 2000 and built a strong local following. Guitarist Mike Kennerty and Drummer Chris Gaylor joined in 2002, and the band was soon signed to the Doghouse independent label, which released their self-titled debut in the same year. The All-American Rejects proved so popular that it was given wide release by Dreamworks several months later. Following the success of their debut, The Rejects signed to Interscope, which released their major label debut Move Along in 2005. That album spawned the hit single "Dirty Little Secret" and became their second platinum-seller.
The All-American Rejects excel at peppy, poppy power pop that both rocks hard and puts a smile on your face. Nick Wheeler's multi-instrumental chops are in evidence in songs such as "My Paper Heart," the opener of their debut album, which is driven by the rhythmic tinkle of what can only be a glockenspiel. Their music aside, you've gotta love the Midwest-hometown-boys-make-good story of their rise to fame, too-building a fanbase, releasing indie albums, and touring to ever-larger crowds. They found rock and roll success they old fashioned way-they earned it.
