AC/DC has landed on a list of the 10 MOST EXPENSIVE acts to see in concert in 2008! The list was compiled from a range of average prices on Ticketmaster, and did not include prices for resold or scalped tickets. AC/DC came in at No. 4 on the list with an average price of $263, while COLDPLAY landed at No. 8 with an average price of $217. MADONNA topped the list with a whopping $378 average ticket price.
Ironically, it was just a few years ago that AC/DC guitarist Malcolm Young told The Pulse of Radio the band tries to keep tickets affordable. "It's value for the dollar," he said. "We like to keep the ticket price down. You know, we're pretty conscious of when we were fans — 'Oh, I couldn't afford to get that one.' So we wanted to keep it a fair price out there." Not exactly keeping their word on that one.
The Top 10 most expensive concert tickets of 2008 are:
MADONNA - $378 ELTON JOHN - $306 THE EAGLES - $279 AC/DC - $263 TINA TURNER - $263 CELINE DION - $240 BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN - $235 COLDPLAY - $217 NEIL DIAMOND - $217 THE POLICE - $216
AC/DC was the only rock band to make the Top 5 in the Los Angeles Times' list of 2008's "Ultimate Top 20," an annual survey that combines sales of concert tickets, albums, and downloads to measure the popularity of acts with consumers. Other rock acts to make the Top 10 list included COLDPLAY, BON JOVI, and BRUCE SPRINGSTEEN, while METALLICA, DAVE MATTHEWS, and KID ROCK made the overall list.
Regarding AC/DC, who earned a total of $82 million, the Times wrote, "The new 'Black Ice' album took the veteran Australian hard rock band back to the top of the charts and also made its concert tour one of the year's hot tickets."
The Times also noted both AC/DC and KID ROCK largely do not sell their music digitally.
Korina Sanchez of TV Patrol World — the flagship national network news broadcast of ABS-CBN in the Philippines — recently conducted a very revealing interview with JOURNEY's Filipino lead vocalist Arnel Pineda.
He
was once an unknown singer who is now suddenly being mobbed in America
as the lead vocalist of the legendary American rock group JOURNEY. Pineda,
born and raised in Sampaloc (in Manila), grew up in poverty and often
slept in in Luneta, a park in Manila. Along the way, he tried using
illegal drugs and became addicted — "to the point that I wished that I
was dead," he said.
For Arnel's family, especially his wife Cherry, this was the most miserable thing that had ever happened to them. She told TV Patrol World, "When he gets drunk, he cries, so I asked him, 'What is the problem?' And then I found out he was using drugs."
Arnel
lost his mother early in his life when she died of a lung disease. He
said that it was the memory of his mother that prevented him from
totally becoming consumed by drugs. "I think my mother was there all
the time," he said. "Every time I thought I was almost dying and gave
up hope in my life, I felt like she was whispering in my ear and asking
me, 'Why are you doing this?'"
Because of drugs, Arnel
lost almost everything. "It was my wife who saved me," he revealed. "It
was my birthday and we were having fun. I was high on drugs; I was high
on alcohol. While [Cherry] was upstairs, she was packing her
bag. When I went up, she told me she was leaving and will have to let
me go. So that woke me up."

A new SMASHING PUMPKINS song called "FOL" will
make its debut in a Hyundai car commercial that will air during the
Super Bowl pre-game show this Sunday (February 1) on NBC-TV. The track acts as the score for a new ad promoting the Hyundai Genesis Coupe. Hyundai VP of marketing Joel Ewanick said that the tune "offers the perfect 'kick-off' to Super Bowl advertising."
Ironically, it was just 10 months ago — in March of 2008 — that the SMASHING PUMPKINS slapped former label Virgin Records with a lawsuit, claiming that the company used the PUMPKINS' name and music in a promotional campaign for Pepsi that supposedly damaged the group's credibility.
Frontman Billy Corgan
said in a statement at the time, "We fought hard for the right to be in
control of how our music is used, to avoid situations like this kind of
crass commercialism and exploitation," adding that the use of the
band's music in the Pepsi campaign threatened their "artistic integrity."
Dee Snider, frontman of heavy metal legends TWISTED SISTER, is set to begin production on the feature film "Strangeland: Disciple" later this year, the much-anticipated follow-up to "Strangeland" (1998), which he wrote and starred in as antagonist Captain Howdy.
His partners in the project, Nehst Studios, have put out an open casting call through Screentest.biz to be a part of the film starring Snider and Robert Englund (Freddie Krueger of the "Nightmare On Elm Street" series).
"We are conducting a national casting call to find actors and extras to be in the film with Dee," explains Nehst head Larry Meistrich.
"This is the best way for people to audition. The goal of this talent
search is to give aspiring actors access to participate and work on a
really high-profile project."
"It's like a national outreach project," explains Snider.
"We will be looking for talent in the body modification and fetish
world. Everywhere I go now, every guy and girl with tattoos and big
holes in their ears wants to be in my movie!"
Parts of "Strangeland: Disciple" will take place in a secret society whose inhabitants party hard and strange at an aptly-named dungeon called "The Torture Garden". "It's a hardcore body modification and fetish scene, filled with all kinds of freaks," Snider
says of the venue. "We're shooting for an NC-17 rating right out of the
box. I want enthusiasts from all over the country to be a part of it!

According to The Pulse of Radio, PAPA ROACH returned to the airwaves in a big way this week with their new single "Lifeline", the first official single from the band's upcoming fifth major label album, "Metamorphosis". The new record follows a tough stretch of time in which the band faced a lot of complicated, disappointing situations including; disappointing sales for their last album, 2006's "The Paramour Sessions", parted ways with both their management team and their drummer, and were also taken to court and sued by the latter.
Frontman Jacoby Shaddix told The Pulse of Radio that "Lifeline"
is about getting through that turmoil. "You know, with this record, it
was kind of like desperate times for this band 'cause we didn't know
what was happening and this song is about that." he said.
"It's about just looking for that one, like, light of hope and we got
it. The song gave it to us, so it's definitely a
powerful, strong song. We play it live and it goes off so well."
PAPA ROACH has set March 24, 2009 as the release date for their next album: "Metamorphosis".
The band will join AVENGED SEVENFOLD and BUCKCHERRY on the road beginning Wednesday night (January 28) in West Valley City, Utah.
Former PAPA ROACH drummer Dave Buckner
filed a lawsuit against the band late last year, claiming that he has
not been receiving his fair share of the group's earnings. PAPA ROACH permanently split with Buckner at the beginning of 2008, following a year-long period in which he went to rehab twice. He was replaced by ex-UNWRITTEN LAW drummer Tony Palermo.
Professionally filmed video footage of PAPA ROACH's performance of "Lifeline"
on August 28, 2008 at Toronto, Ontario, Canada's Molson Amphitheater was filmed. The clip was shot during last summer's Crüe Fest 2008 tour which was headlined by MÖTLEY CRÜE and also featured BUCKCHERRY, TRAPT and SIXX: A.M. No alcohol was being sold at the show after the Alcohol and Gaming Commission of Ontario suspended the liquor license of the Molson Amphitheater during the concert.
The footage of PAPA ROACH performing the song, "Lifeline" can be viewed below:

J.J. Huggins ofEagleTribune.comreports that conflicting statements have been made in the chain-reaction car wreck that has led to a lawsuit against rock star Sully Erna of the band GODSMACK.
Lindsay Taylor, 26, and her parents, Elaine and Jeffrey, all of Chelmsford, are suing Erna for the April 11, 2007 three-car crash on the ramp from Interstate 93 south to Route 213 east.
Taylor rode in the back seat of a Toyota Camry driven by Eric Sargent
of Haverhill. She suffered a severe traumatic brain injury and was in a
coma after the crash, according to the lawsuit and her lawyer.
