30 Seconds to Mars is one kick ass rock alt band, whose unique sound has been compared to everyone from Incubus to The Cure. The Los Angeles based band formed in 2000. These bad boys had a kick ass album out by 2002, which blew everyone out of the water! With their kick ass songs and performances, they brought a whole different sound and something completely new to the table. With rockin' Tracks like "The Kill" and "Attack", this band rocks out and knows how to kick ass! With Jared Leto on the vocals, Shannon Leto on Drums and Matt Wachter as bassist, these bad boys are one kick ass must see band! Today I got to interview Jared Leto and here's what he had so say.
JUICY BANDS: How did you guys come up with the name 30 Seconds To Mars?
JARAD LETO: It's a good representation of our sound. It's a phrase that is lyrical, suggestive, cinematic, and filled with immediacy. It has some sense of otherness to it, we were bringing something different to the table and we thought the name fit the description.
JUICY BANDS: So what do you usually do on the weekends, I see your brother at parties all time, but I never see you out. I'm like, "where's Jared?" what's up with that?
JARED LETO: I don't know, I lay low. It really just depends on what mood i'm in. Sometimes I just stay home, kick back watch a movie and keep it on the dl. Shannon's out all the time, every party, every where, so that's cool.
Other times, I hit up the rock clubs and party my ass off! [laughs]
JUICY BANDS: So ever since My So Called Life, you kinda inherited this bad boy image, would you say you're the bad boy of the band?
JARED LETO: Not to bad, I try to live up to my image but ya' know [laughs] nuh, I think I'm pretty chill most of the time
JUICY BANDS: What's your must have food or snack you always take on the road with you?
JARED LETO: I'd have to say Popcorn, give me a box a popcorn and we're good [laughs]
JUICY BANDS: It's that easy huh [laughs] Who are some of your biggest influences?
JARED LETO: We all have a lot of admiration and respect for Pink Floyd, Depeche Mode, The Cure, Rush, The Who, I'd have to say they're our main influences. It would be impossible to list them all but those are a few.
JUICY BANDS: What would you say was your all time favorite tour and why?
JARED LETO: I would have to say one of our first tours, we went on tour with Puddle of Mudd and it was awesome! They're all such great people and they treated us well. We really appriciated them inviting to tour with them, it was incredible. It was our first time playing in front of thousands of people and every night was outrageous and the crowd response was great. We rocked out back stage and after the show was over we hung out and talked to everyone. We made a lot of new fans, it was a good time.
JUICY BANDS: The song "Welcome to the Universe" is a kick ass song, it really pulls you in. What's that song about?
JARED LETO: In a general sense, it is about a desire for renewal, by seeing things through other peoples eyes. A different way of looking at things, but I'd rather let people take their own understanding and meaning from the song. I think that is one of the exciting things about music, the interpretation, from individual to individual and how so many things can change.
JUICY BANDS: Apart from acting, you have this band and you guys are one hell of a rock band, you guys kick ass! How do you guys come up with this kick ass music and how do you keep it so different from everything that's out now days?
JARED LETO: Thanks, I appreciate that. We're all very inspired from different experiences we've all gone through in life. Sometimes the process of writing 30 seconds to mars material causes me to look from the outside in, sometimes from the inside out. It depends on what my intention is. In our songs we create the world, rather then just support it. We just do things different, there's so many people writing about relationships and partying so we stray away from that and just create a new scene, a new world, a new universe in so we speak.
JUICY BANDS: When are you guys planning your next tour?
JARED LETO: About two weeks. We're kickin' it off in Tulsa Oklahoma in March. We have so much fun touring and we there's so much support from our fans, we plan on touring as long a humanly possible.
JUICY BANDS: Is there anything you would like to say to your fans?
JARED LETO: Thank you so much for all the support and we'll be in your area soon so come to our show, we'll be rockin' out and I'm excited.
