Starting off as nothing more then a side project, few would've thought Hammerfall would have gotten so far. Oscar Dronjak quit Ceremonial Oath in 1993 and teamed up with In Flames' Jesper Stromblad to create the metal band we know and love called: Hammerfall. Oscar already had plans in terms of direction and musical ideas, but they agreed Hammerfall must be a side project as they both had separate, newly started bands; Oscar being part of Crystal Age and Jesper busy kicking ass with In Flames. In their first few years they met on occasion and participated in many musical competitions and festivals. Enjoying much success, they eventually released their debut album, Glory to the Brave, in 1997 under Nuclear Records. Receiving unsurpassed exposure and praise, Hammerfall really hit it big! Amid lineup changes, they've released 6 albums and they tour internationally in between causing a ruckus at festivals, which they loved to attend. The current Hammerfall line up consists of vocalist Joacim Cans, founder and guitarist Oscar Dronjak, guitarist Stefan Elmgren, bassist Magnus Rosen, and drummer Anders Johansson. They are still around today and have lots of big plans for the future.
They've never had a simple side project grow to be so flippin huge! They were responsible for influencing much of the genre including bands like, In Flames and Crystal Age. Beside winning countless awards for their proficiency and innovation, including Swedish Grammies, they enjoyed the support of a massive international fan base. Always with the fans in mind, they tour fanatically and are always crashing major music festivals and competitions! They are notorious for their "festival frenzy" and together with their fans, they showed that heavy metal was alive and well in the nineties and they know the new millennium is all about metal, rock on!
